Kuruva Island: Wayanad (Kerala) is rising in the area of tourism

Kuruva Island is a forest made up with bamboo and many other trees. Its total area is nearly 900 acres. Which is an ideal tourist place away from the busy life of a person. The island is situated in the Wayanadu District, 17 kms from Mananthavady and 40 kms from Sulthan bethery. Its nearer to the Famous Valliyoorkkavu temple.

Travel Note:
I started my journey from iritty (Kannur District) at 5.30 am and reach there at 8.20 am by car. Early morning is good for travel to the Island. The way to the Kuruva is through "Boys Town" & "Mananthavady". Kuruva island is the one of the most beutiful tourist place in kerala. This place is a collection of many islands and are situated on the tributaries of the river Kabini. When i went there (on March 2011) the water level was very low and is easy to cross the river by walk. This island is isolated but an array of many uncommon species of flowers, trees, animals & birds are waiting for the future.

Many travelers are opting this place for trucking and for boating. Now, (March 2011) the all bamboo trees are flowered and is on the last days. So the coming few years you cant see the bamboo forest in the Kuruva island. The raining time is not good for visit to the island because of many leech's.

For food:
Many small hotels are there in the island and are in cheap. Home stays are also available there.

KURUVA ISLAND has 2 Entrances, One is @ Mysore-Mananthavady Road & another entrance is near Pulpally.

  6. Worst place to visit in Wayanad. Its not event a proper island. Just a chunk of land separated from mainland by some 50 meters. Only reason to visit this place is if you want to take a dip in river kabini when water flow is slow and shallow.
