Vagamon: A Beautiful Hill Station in the Middle Kerala | Description, Directions & Pictures

Vagamon, a famous enchanting hill station located in Kottayam(Kerala) exactly 39 Km from Palai and 45 Km from Thodupuzha. It is situated at an elevation of around 1100 meters above sea level.  It has a cool climate with the temperature between 10 – 21 °C. Vagamon is famous for tea plantations, grass covered mounts, fresh & cool air, mist, Pine Forest, Pools, Small Waterfalls, fresh air, mind blowing journey etc,. The meandering road to Vagamon is cut in solid rock lined with pine forests. And as you wind your way through green capped hills, the rolling plains come into view thousands of feet below you.
Grass covered hills, velvet lawns and the cool mountain air make Vagamon a perfect holiday retreat. A curious blend of religious mysticism and European legacies, this hillside village is a haven of equanimity. The chain of three hills - Thangal Hill, Murugan Hill and Kurisumala - is a mark of religious harmony. The breeding centre of the Kerala Live Stock Board is also located here.
If we are going from Palai, it is better to go first at Kurishumala. Kurisumala is a hill contains big rocks and is famous for Christians. In the name Kurishumala, “Kurish” is a Malayalam Word which means Cross and “Mala” means Hill. Which is famous for “Way of Cross” circuit and on the day of Good Friday, thousands of peoples are coming here. Kurishumala contains 14 points of the way of cross and at last in the top of the hill, a small & beautiful church. In the starting point a big statue (18 ft height) of St. Thomas is there.
The next point in the trip is Kurishumala farm, a dairy farm managed by the Kurisumala monks. Kurishumala farm is surrounded by a beautiful garden and here the tomb of famous missionary Abbot Fransis Acharya is situated. The farm is very neat in look and the milk is taking from the cow with machines. Kurishumala Packet Milks are famous in Middle Kerala.
Next attraction in the Vagamon is Pine Forest. Pine Forest contains full of big Pine trees. In the hottest time also here the climate is very good for rest. One big attraction here is the murmur sound of pine trees by the wind.
Vagamon's charm is worth experiencing and is indeed one of the must see places for tourists. One speciality of Vagamon is that you will never get tired of Vagamon as each day or visit will display the varied moods of nature and climatic differences; the mist you can touch, the rain drops, the gentle breeze or the golden hue in December-January which will be greatly rewarding and soothing for you and that can romanticize your mind and thoughts. You can easily be humbled by nature and its a not -so- completely -lost pristine condition here. The trees and shrubs in Vagamon give it an added attraction. Please note that these all areas are plastic free zones.
